Feeding baby plums:

You can introduce plums to a weaning baby from 6 months old. All varieties of plums are very nutritious, they are high in fibre, low in cholesterol, sodium free and rich in Vitamin A & Vitamin K and contain minerals like iron and potassium.
They are also great for helping constipation! Plums don’t pose a high allergy risk, so they are a great fruit to introduce to a baby that is weaning.

Seasonal fruits:

Summer is the best time to enjoy seasonal fruit and in August you should find plenty of seasonal fruits like plums. I love buying seasonal foods as the shops and markets are well stocked with good produce. Some people may be lucky enough to have a plum tree in their garden! Or fancy going along to a pick your own fruit farm, something exciting about coming away with a full basket of delicious fruits you have just picked (or eaten if your toddler is in tow) and a great activity for toddlers to get involved in. What toddler doesn’t love dirt and bugs!!.
When eating fruits and vegetables that are in season it means they have grown naturally in cycles and ripen during a certain season each year. When fruits and veggies are in season they are at their best nutritionally and taste wise often more juicy.  Of course they are also more likely to be produced in the UK from British farms. If you buy seasonally you are doing your bit to be supporting local farmers and suppliers!

Baby weaning recipe with plums!Plum puree

I want to help mums who like to cook fresh, healthy simple weaning recipes for their baby! No need for endless time spent in the kitchen! As soon as baby’s first foods have been introduced you can start having fun with new flavours and texture’s!

Plum recipes:

Easy and tasty plum and apple weaning recipe:

  • 4 red plums peeled, pitted and chopped
  • 4 apples peeled, cored and chopped
  • I cup water


You can keep the skins on your fruit, as this adds fibre and makes your preparation and cooking easier. Quarter your apples and then core them, peel skin and chop into small chunks. Then cut your plums in half remove the stone and peel (you can leave the skin on).
Put the fruit into a small pan with a cup of water ensuring all the fruit is covered, you can steam your fruit if you prefer. Gently simmer your fruit for around 7-10 mins, checking every few minutes that there is still enough water in the bottom of the pan to ensure the fruit doesn’t burn!
Once fruit is cooked blitz with a handheld blender, reserve a little of the liquid from the cooking pan in case it needs a little more liquid depending on how smooth your baby likes it. Pop into small freezer pots and freeze. This recipe is also great for adding to natural yoghurt and baby porridge.

plum peach pearPlum, peach, & pear recipe:

This is a fabulous in season recipe for summertime, it is also a good source of vitamin c. This recipe makes around 6 portions.


  • 2 ripe plums
  • 2 ripe peaches
  • 2 ripe pears
  • 1 cup of water


Wash, peel, core and chop all fruit. Place the chopped fruit into a small saucepan with a cup of water. Cover with a lid and gently simmer for approx 6 mins. Always check the pan in case you need to add a little more water; you don’t want to burn your fruit!
Once cooked blend into a soft puree or mash if baby likes more texture. Delicious eaten on its own or add a little to a natural yoghurt. You can pop your fruits into small pots ready for the freezer.
